The Club have been informed that Mr Ken Mellor has passed away in Welbourn Nursing Home on Tuesday 18th January 2022, at the age of 97.
Ken and his wife Mabel were long-time playing and social members at the Club and made many friends in that time. Ken was a navigator in the Royal Air Force and started playing golf in 1960 while stationed at RAF Upavon, in Wiltshire. As an avid player he soon reduced his handicap down to 7.
Ken served as Club Captain in 1986-87 and during that time he became the Club’s unofficial ‘poet in residence’, with his humorous golf-themed poems providing great entertainment at all of his speeches that year, as well as many more afterwards.
Even after both Ken and Mabel retired from playing golf, they could both be found at the Club on many occasions, especially if there was a game of bridge on offer.
The thoughts of the all the Club are with all of Ken’s family at this difficult time.
